2025年9月13日から15日まで、兵庫医科大学神戸キャンパスで「Asia Pacific Stroke Conference 2025（APSC2025）」を開催しました。アジア太平洋だけでなく、ヨーロッパやアメリカ、さらには南米や中東からも先生方が集まり、最終的には約600名の参加となりました。運営委員によれば過去最多だったそうで、会場は本当に熱気にあふれていました。
学会の準備は、会場や日程を決めるところから始まり、プログラム調整や海外ゲストの招聘、資金のことまで、とにかくやることが山ほどありました。正直「本当に大丈夫かな？」と思うことも多かったのですが、事務局長の白川 学先生と秘書の永井祐子さんを中心に、スタッフや関係者が力を合わせてくれたおかげで、無事に走り抜けることができました。台風シーズンだったので私は最後まで気が気ではなかったのですが、白川先生と永井さんは「関西は大丈夫ですよ〜！」と謎の自信を見せ続け（笑）、結果的に台風は1週間前に通過してくれました。
初日のオープニングセッションでは、当科のクラーク福満さんのサポートで和太鼓の演奏が披露され、圧巻の迫力で一気に会場が盛り上がりました。また、３日間を通して当科や同門の若手が同時通訳や会場係を担当してくれて、全体がとてもスムーズに進みました。学会というと堅いイメージがあるかもしれませんが、今回のAPSC2025は本当に「お祭り」のような雰囲気で、参加された先生方からも「神戸で楽しい時間を過ごせた」と嬉しい声をたくさんいただきました。
学会は発表や議論の場であると同時に、人と人がつながり、新しいアイデアや共同研究が芽生える場所でもあります。今回もいろいろな出会いがあり、若手が海外の先生と直接話す機会も生まれました。こうしたご縁が、また次の研究や挑戦につながっていくことを期待しています。
改めて、参加者の皆さん、日本脳卒中学会、APSOの皆さん、そして準備や運営を支えてくれた仲間たちに心から感謝します。本当にありがとうございました！
From September 13 to 15, 2025, we hosted the Asia Pacific Stroke Conference 2025 (APSC2025) at Hyogo Medical University Kobe Campus. Nearly 600 participants joined from Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and beyond—the largest number in the history of this meeting. The venue was full of energy and excitement throughout.
Preparing for the congress involved countless tasks, from venue and program arrangements to inviting international guests and managing logistics. Honestly, there were moments when I wondered if everything would work out. But thanks to the great efforts of Prof. Manabu Shirakawa as Secretary General, Ms. Yuko Nagai, and the strong support of our staff and colleagues, the meeting was a success. Even with the typhoon season, everything went smoothly, and the storm passed one week before the event.
The opening session began with a powerful Japanese taiko drum performance, supported by our department’s Mrs. Fukumitsu, which created an unforgettable atmosphere. Throughout the three days, our young colleagues also contributed as interpreters and venue staff, ensuring smooth operations. Although academic congresses can sometimes feel formal, this APSC truly had the spirit of a “festival,” and many participants told us how much they enjoyed their time in Kobe.
Academic meetings are not only for presentations and discussions, but also for building connections and sparking new collaborations. This time, too, many new ideas and opportunities emerged, and young doctors had chances to interact directly with international experts. I believe these encounters will lead to future projects and challenges.
